When you want to describe “something is not what is required, but that it is better to have that thing than to have nothing at all”, you would be able to use “無いよりはマシ！(naiyoriwa-mashi)” which means “You made it!”. Everybody could use this in daily conversations as casual and “無いよりはマシです！(naiyoriwa-mashi-desu)” is used as polite and formal.
