Yuka & Rei Compare Daily Routines

Reading and listening get better when you also reflect and discuss. Here is how Yuka and Rei unpack the key ideas from this topic — notice the questions Yuka asks, because they’re probably the same ones you had.

Yuka

Rei, I read the daily routine text and I noticed まいあさ, まいにち, まいしゅう everywhere. Are these easy to remember?

Rei

Very! まい〜 means ‘every ~.’ まいあさ = every morning, まいにち = every day, まいしゅう = every week, まいつき = every month, まいとし = every year. One prefix, five essential time expressions — great ROI for vocabulary learning.

Yuka

I’m trying to write my own daily routine in Japanese. What verbs do I need most?

Rei

The essentials: おきる (wake up), あさごはんをたべる (eat breakfast), でかける (head out), しごとをする (work), かえる (return home), ねる (sleep). Chain them with て-form for a natural daily routine narrative.
