差し上げる — Humble “Give” to a Superior

Use 差し上げる instead of あげる when YOU give something to a superior or customer.

Casual: 先生にプレゼントをあげた。

Polite: 先生にプレゼントを差し上げた。 — I humbly gave the teacher a present.

いただく — Humble “Receive” from a Superior

Use いただく instead of もらう when YOU receive from a superior.

社長にアドバイスをいただいた。 — I humbly received advice from the president.

Before meals: いただきます = I humbly receive (this food).

くださる — Honorific “Give” (toward you) from Superior

Use くださる instead of くれる when a superior/customer gives something to you.
