dō shita no? vs. dōka shita no?:They Have Subtle Differences.

What is the difference between “どうしたの?(dō shita no) and どうかしたの?(ka shita no)”?

Which sounds more serious? After reading this, you would be answering this question. Let me introduce what their subtle differences are and how you correctly use them such as native speakers today!

どうしたの? (dō shita no) / どうかしたの? (ka shita no)

What’s wrong? / 怎么了?, 怎么了? / 무슨 일이야?, 무슨 일 생겼어? / Có chuyện gì vậy?, Có chuyện gì vậy?

“どうしたの? (dō shita no) / どうかしたの? (ka shita no)” means “What’s wrong?” and which has been used “for asking someone who looks ill or sad to tell you what problem they have”. The tips for using them are that although the way to use them is the same, “どうかしたの?” is a more serious way to ask.

For instance, You:どうしたの?(What’s wrong?), Friend:あそこにあたらしいおみせができてる!(There’s a new shop there.).

And You:どうしたの?(What’s wrong?), Friend:へんひとがついてきてる!(A weird person follows us!).

more serious, you know?!

That’s what the difference between them.

Thus, when asking someone who looks SO SAD, or SERIOUS, probably he/she has a big problem, you would be able to use “どうかしたの?” instead of “そうしたの?”, thus “どうしたの?” is often used than it.

Everybody could use “どうしたの?/どうかしたの?” in daily conversations as casual and “どうしましたか?(douka-shimashitaka)/どうかしましたか?(ka shimashita ka)/” is used as polite and formal.
