I’d say “近づく” and “近寄る” are the quite complicated words for you guys. What is the difference between “近づく” and “近寄る”? If you don’t know the difference yet, don’t worry about it. You would be clear after reading this. Let me introduce the difference between them how you correctly use them such as native speakers today!

[wp-svg-icons icon=”arrow-right-2″ wrap=”span”] Approach/Get close / 接近 / 다가오다 / Tới gần
“近づく” means “Approach” and which has been used as the meaning of “someone/animal or something comes near or nearer to a person or an animal or a thing in distance or time”. The tips of the way to use it can be used both “People or Animals and things” approach to someone and something, unlike “近寄る”. For instance, 人が私に近づく(A person approaches me.), 夏が近づく(Summer gets closer.), etc. It is just “distance or time” wise.
(As Christmas gets closer, I wanna get a boyfriend.)

[wp-svg-icons icon=”arrow-right-2″ wrap=”span”] Get close / 靠近 / 가까이 오다 / Tiếp cận
“近寄る” means “Get close” and which has been similarly used as the meaning “近づく”. The difference between “近寄る” and “近づく” is the subject. Although the subject of “近づく” is “People/Animals or things”, the subject of “近寄る” is only People or Animals”. (A person gets close me.) is correct but 夏が近寄る(Summer gets closer.) is wrong because “Summer” is not “people or animals”. Furthermore, the difference between “人が私に近づく(A person approaches me.)” and “人が私に近寄る(A person gets close me.)” is that the meaning of “近寄る” is “people/animals have their WILL and get close. (A person approaches me.)” sounds normal which is explained about only the distance, however, “人が私に近寄る(A person gets close me.)” sounds a little afraid if we don’t know him/her. Probably, he/she ask us something, when using “人が私に近寄ってくる(A person is getting close me.)”.
(The criminal got close to me!) (Thủ phạm đã đến gần!)
