What is the difference between “つかまえる” and “逮捕たいほする”? They have subtle differences. Although we can “つかまえる”, we can’t “逮捕たいほする”, if you are a police officer. Let me introduce what their subtle differences are and how you correctly use them such as native speakers today!

[wp-svg-icons icon=”arrow-right-2″ wrap=”span”] Catch / 捕获 / 잡다 / Bắt được

つかまえる” means “Catch” and which has been used as the meaning of “to take hold of something, especially something that is moving through the air or to find and stop a person or animal that is trying to escape”. Someone learners got complicated between “つかまえる” and “逮捕たいほする”, because the other meaning of “つかまえる” is “逮捕たいほする(arrest)”. Although the only police can arrest(逮捕たいほする) someone who committed a crime, everybody can catch(つかまえる) something or someone, it does not matter if he/she committed a crime or no. The basic way to use it is “___(something/someone)をつかまえる(catch something/someone)”.
