してくれますか? vs. してもらえませんか?: Can You? Or Could You?

What is the difference between “してくれますか? and してもらえませんか?”? Which do you use when you ask someone about something? After reading this, you would be answering this question. Let me introduce what their subtle differences are and how you correctly use them such as native speakers today!

“___してくれますか?” means “Can you ___, please ? ” and which has been used as the meaning of “a way to ask for things”. The basic way to use it is that “___してくれますか?(Can you ___, please?)”, etc. For instance, “写真しゃしんってくれますか?(Can you take a photo for me/us, please?)”, “ドアをけてくれますか?(Can you open the window, please?), etc. The tips for using it are that “___してくれますか?” is pretty rude for people who you met the first time and ask for things. So, it could be used for people who you know and get along with such as your teacher, clerks you have talked before, etc. “___してくれますか?” is NOT THE CASUAL WAY TO ASK, “___してくれない?(Can you ___ ?)” is casual, however, it is NOT THE POLITE WAY TO ASK for things for people who you met the first time. When asking your friends, “___してくれない?(Can you ___ ?)” is better. If you use “___してくれますか?” to them, that would be a little bit awkward. Everybody could use it as the middle way to ask for things between casual and formal. Additionally, although you would be able to use it to ask for things to people who you met the first time, that wouldn’t be that polite like teenagers. If you are teenagers, that would be fine. Lastly, “___してくれますか?” would be changed by verbs, such as “写真しゃしんってくれますか?”, “___をけてくれますか?”, “おくってくれますか?”, “確認かくにんしてくれますか?”, etc.
