“到着する” mean “Arrive” and which has been used as the meaning of “to reach a destination”. The basic way to use it is “私は___に到着する。(I arrive at/in ___.)”, etc. For instance, “私はオーストラリアに到着する。(I arrive in Australia.)”, etc. The tips for using it are that “到着する” is used as the meaning of “to reach a DESTINATION”. So, basically, you have to say somewhere you arrive in using this. Everybody could use this both in daily conversations as casual and in business situations as formal such as “オーストラリアに到着したよ。(I arrived in Australia.)”, and “オーストラリアに到着しました。(I arrived in Australia.)”. Lastly, “着く” is a casual way than “到着する”.

Lastly, although you would use “目的地に到着する” and “目的地に到達する”, they have subtle differences that “目的地に到達する” means “someone arrives at his/her destination.” and “目的地に到達する” means “someone arrives at his/her destination (where he/she wanted to be such as a top of mountain, a goal point of Marathon, etc).”. Lastly, “到着” is used with “PLACE” and “到達” is used with “someone’s GOAL”.
