特産とくさん vs. 名産めいさん: They Mean “Local Specialities” But…

特産とくさん and 名産めいさん” mean “Local speciality or speciality” and which has been used as the meaning of “a product that is extremely good in a particular place”. The basic way to use it is “AはBの特産品とくさんひん/名産品めいさんひんだ。(A is a local speciality in B.)”, etc. For instance, “いちごは東京とうきょう特産品とくさんひん/名産品めいさんひんだ。(Strawberries are the local speciality in Tokyo.), etc. The tips for using them are that basically “特産とくさん and 名産めいさん” are the same. However, they have the subtle differences which are that “特産とくさん” means “a product that is extremely good in a particular place” and “名産めいさん” means “a product which is FAMOUS and that is extremely good in a particular place”, so, “めい” of “名産めいさん” means “name” which is used as the meaning of “well-known”. Otherwise, “とく” of “特産とくさん” is “special”. Thus, “名産めいさん” is equal to “特産とくさん + famous”. Furthermore, “特産とくさん and 特産品とくさんひん” or “名産品めいさんひん” is the same usage, however, basically we tend to use “特産とくさん” is “Local specialities” and “特産とくさん” means “A local speciality”. Everybody could use these both in daily conversations as casual and in business situations as formal, such as “いちごは東京とうkじょう特産品とくさんひん/名産品めいさんひんだよ。(Strawberries are the local speciality in Tokyo.)” as casual and “いちごは東京とうkじょう特産品とくさんひん/名産品めいさんひんです。(Strawberries are the local speciality in Tokyo.) as polite and lastly, “いちごは東京とうkじょう特産品とくさんひん/名産品めいさんひんとなります。(Strawberries are the local speciality in Tokyo.) as formal.
