〜とともに — Along With / At the Same Time As
〜とともに is used to express that two things happen simultaneously or that something accompanies something else. It has two main uses:
- Simultaneous occurrence: A happens together with B
- Accompaniment: together with (a person or thing)
Formation: Noun / Verb plain form + とともに
- 時代の変化とともに — along with the changes of the times
- 春の訪れとともに — as spring arrives / with the arrival of spring
- 涙とともに語った — spoke through tears / told (the story) along with tears

年齢とともに考え方が変わってきた。
As I've aged, my way of thinking has changed.
| Japanese | English |
|---|---|
| 経済成長とともに生活水準が上がった。 | Living standards rose along with economic growth. |
| 夜明けとともに出発した。 | We departed at dawn. (along with / as dawn came) |
| 彼女は笑顔とともに去った。 | She left with a smile. |
〜につれて — As 〜 Progresses (Gradual Change)
〜につれて expresses that as one thing gradually progresses or increases, another thing changes accordingly. The focus is on a proportional, gradual relationship between two changing things.
Formation: Verb dictionary form / Noun + につれて
- 時間が経つにつれて — as time passes
- 年を取るにつれて — as one gets older
- 学ぶにつれて — as one learns more

The key to につれて is the gradual, proportional relationship. Both A and B are changing over time — as A increases/progresses, B also changes. It's often used with time passing or growing ability.
