とりあえず vs. とにかく：Commonly Spoken Words in Japanese

とりあえず (toriaezu)

“とりあえず” means “For now” and which has been used as the meaning of “At the moment”. The basic way to use it is “とりあえず___(___for now)”, etc. For instance, “とりあえず以上で。(That’s it for now.)”, “とりあえずビールで。(I’ll just have a beer for now.)”, “とりあえず書いた。(I just wrote for now.)”, etc. The tips for using it are that “とりあえず” is used when you are NOT IN A HURRY and you want to do or order something.
