issho ni” vs. “tomo ni“:Which is Used in Daily Conversations?

What is the difference between “一緒いっしょに(issho ni) and ともに(tomo ni)”? Which is used in daily conversations? After reading this, you would be answering this question. Let me introduce what their subtle differences are and how you correctly use them such as native speakers today!

一緒いっしょに (issho ni) / ともに (tomo ni)

Togher or With / 起, 共同 / 같이, 함께 / Cùng nhau, Cùng nhau

Both “一緒いっしょに(issho ni) and ともに(tomo ni)” mean “Togher or With” and which has been used as the meaning of “with each other”. The basic way to use it is “わたしはAと一緒いっしょに/ともに___する。(I ___ with A.)”, “私達わたしたち一緒いっしょに/とも___した。(We ___ together.)” etc. For instance, “わたし友達ともだち一緒いっしょに/ともものく。(I go shopping with my friend.)”, “私達わたしたち一緒いっしょに/とも頑張がんばる。(We work hard together.)”, etc. The tips for using them are that “一緒いっしょに” is used in daily conversations as casual, polite and even formal. Although “ともに” is the same meaning of “一緒いっしょに”, “ともに” is used as TOO FORMAL, so politicians, CEO tend to use to people or employees such as “とも頑張がんばろう!(Work hard together!)”. Everybody could use “一緒いっしょに” in daily conversations as casual and polite. And in business situations as formal such as “一緒いっしょ頑張がんばったよ。(We worked hard together.)” as casual and “私達わたしたち一緒いっしょ頑張がんばりました。(We worked hard together.)” as formal and which is also used as polite. Furthermore, “ともに” is sometimes used as a writing word. I’d say “一緒いっしょに” is used more than 95% in daily conversations.
