“dare” vs. “donata”：Why Native Speakers Use Both as Who?

What is the difference between “だれ(dare) and どなた(donata)”? Which is used as more polite? After reading this, you would be answering this question. Let me introduce what their subtle differences are and how you correctly use them such as native speakers today!

だれ (dare) / どなた (donata)

Who / 谁, 哪位 / 누구, 어느 분 / Ai, Vị nào

“だれ(dare) and どなた(donata)” mean “Who” and which has been used “especially in questions as the subject or object of a verb, when asking which person or people, or when asking what someone’s name is”. You would use them in a lot of situations. The tips for using them are that “だれ” is used as CASUAL and POLITE, whereas “どなた” is used as FORMAL(polite). That’s what their difference is. For instance “だれと一緒いっしょに行いくの？(Who will you go with？)” as casual, “だれと一緒いっしょに行いくの(ん)ですか？(Who will you go with？)” as polite and “だどなた一緒いっしょに行いくのですか？(Who will you go with？)” as formal. Everybody could use “だれ” in daily conversations as casual, polite and “どなた” is used in business situations as formal.
